Ernest Hemingway was so captivated by the beauty of Sawtooth National Forest that he asked to be buried here. The forest consists of 2.1 million acres of the most beautiful and wildest country available in the continental United States. Here visitors can
find 1,100 lakes and over 3,000 miles of rivers and streams. There are more than 300 high mountain lakes here as well as the headwaters of four of Idaho's major rivers, The Salmon, Payette, Boise and Bigwood. Salmon and steelhead, along with abundant trout entice fishermen along the riverbanks. However, fishing is not the only reason to venture to Sawtooth. Rafters and kayakers can be seen on its waters. Sawtooth is also the home to Sun Valley, which is known worldwide as some of the best ski mountains that the U.S. has to offer.
