Grand
Beach City Guide - A Harbor Country® Community
Harbor Country's® village of Grand Beach was synonymous with elegance
and class in the 1920s.
Its 175-room Golfmore Hotel was one of the finest on the Great Lakes,
catering to film stars and
other celebrities. Lost in a spectacular blaze in 1939, the hotel's name
is preserved in beautiful lake estates, clubs and neighborhood streets.
The first cottages in Grand Beach, near Royal Avenue, were Sears and Robuck
catalogue models.
The current Tall Oaks Inn was once the Pinewood Lodge and served as the
training camp for James Braddock as he prepared for his prize fight with
Joe Louis. Perhaps the most famous visitors to Grand Beach, however, are
author Father Andrew Greeley and the Mayors Daley of Chicago who have
maintained summer homes in the village for decades.
The eight towns that make up Harbor Country are New
Buffalo, Michiana,
Grand Beach, Union
Pier, Lakeside,
Harbert, Sawyer
and Three Oaks.
The official site covers area attractions, directories for lodging, dining,
shops, galleries and events. Harbor Country® is a Registered Servicemark
of the Harbor Country Chamber of Commerce, New Buffalo, MI.
